Kakavia is Greek traditional soup of the fishermen, usually cooked out at sea using sea-water and fish collected after cleaning their net, small shellfish, easy to bring with vegetables like onions and potatoes, flavored with lemons and eaten with only bread and your hands.

Ingredients (for your home rather than a fishing boat)

Onions 2 sliced in thin wedges

Potatoes 4 peeled and cut to big bite size

Olive oil 1/4cups

Water

Salt and pepper

Fish 1 about 1 kilo scaled and gutted

Lemons

Fresh hot bread

Method

Heat the olive oil in a heavy bottom cooking pot and sauté the onions till the soft.

Add the potatoes and cover all ingredients with water

Boil for about 10 minutes

Cut the fish to big pieces, wash with cold water and immerse in the pot with the vegetables, top up with water if needed and salt to your preference. Bring to boil and simmer for about 20 minutes more.

Serve hot with lemons on the side and hot bread
